our wagging tongue…again…..

Our words are like giant keys.  When you speak, you either open a gate of praise for God to walk through, or you open the gates of hell for the enemy to walk through.

Think about it.  Which are you doing?

When you meet a truly satisfied person, you can know that person is speaking right things.  That person is consistently speaking words of life from God’s Word!  And the same is true if you meet a person that is not satisfied with life.  It’s probably because his or her mouth isn’t lining up with God’s Word.

Proverbs 18:21 “The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.”

I think that if we understand the power our words carry, we will experience the results of that power.  Our words matter.  They carry spiritual weight and we are ultimately accountable for how we use them.

Matthew 12:36-37 “But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment.  For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.”

Eeek!  Every  idol word?  I personally wish Jesus hadn’t said that.  But He did.  And I don’t know the exact value of a word, but I do know this….A word is worth so much that God is recording every single one of them for eternity.

Yikes… and double yikes.

But the good news is that God is equipped with an erase button.  Because of God’s grace, when we confess our sins, including sins of the mouth, we are cleansed, erased and remembered no more!!  Woo Hooo!!

1 John 1;9 “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”

PHEW!!!!  Thankfully, the same things that can give evidence of separation from God (our words) can connect us to Him as well.

You can determine your future quality of life….by the words you speak today.  Allow your mouth (and tongue) to line up with the Word of God…..now.

change your garments, silly….

Another key to God’s power is PRAISE.

In Isaiah 61: 3, we can glimpse into the scope of Jesus’ power.  It says that the promised Messiah will be sent to “console those who mourn in Zion, to give them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they may be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified.”

Did you know that “Depression is increasingly common in the US and internationally.  Approx. 17.5 million American adults, or about 9.2 percent of the US population age 18 and older in a given year, has a depressive disorder.” (thank you, Google)

I think the term, spirit of heaviness, is an accurate term.  And I also believe that the enemy is pushing people down and trying to keep them down, so he is de-pressing them….How?  Through our words.

You know, people can talk themselves into a full-blown state of depression.  And most of us can admit that it has happened before.  What is in our minds and hearts is what comes out through the words of our mouths.  So if we have troubled minds, we will not live a peaceful life.

Satan is a liar.  And if we believe his lies, he has successfully deceived us in one or more areas.  Joyce Meyers says to “think about what you think about”.  If you start to feel depressed, or feel that spirit of heaviness come upon you…STOP.  Examine your thoughts!  You are going to find that you have been thinking thoughts that are producing the negative emotions you are experiencing.  You can actually make yourself miserable or happy by what you choose to think about.

So next time you are confronted with a negative thought, you need to remember that you have the option of either ignoring it or inviting it in and analyzing it, meditating on it and allowing it to take up a lot of room in your mind.  Choose to renew your mind.  Think according to His Word to be in obedience to Him.

Remember….God is stronger than the enemy….and HE will deliver you!

right to free speech…

Ok.  Yes, the First Amendment of the Constitution does guarantee every U.S. citizen the right of free speech, and I am certainly glad that it does.  Those freedoms were won and have been defended at enormous sacrifice.  But……

Not only are we under the laws of this country, but we are also subject to spiritual laws.  As a christian we carry dual citizenship.  We are not only a citizen of this country, but we are also citizens of the kingdom of heaven.  And as the laws of God’s kingdom are concerned, there is no such thing as free speech.

Remember?  Our words matter.  Each one carries with it a spiritual weight.  And we are ultimately accountable for how we use them.  You can’t simply say anything you want.  And with that in mind, read these words from David…

Psalm 141:3 “Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth; Keep watch over the door of my lips.”

Wow.  That’s something I should paint on the ceiling over my bed, so that before my feet hit the floor, I have taken every precaution to watch my words!

We can sin with our words!  Look at Proverbs 6…..look at what Solomon said:

Proverbs 6:16-19 “There are six things the Lord hates, seven that are detestable to Him:  haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, a false witness that pours out lies and a man who stirs up dessension among brothers.”

Ok….I’ve said it before.  YIKES.  In this list of seven things that are an abomination to God, three of them are sins of the mouth.

FREE SPEECH?  Don’t believe the lie.  There’s nothing free about it.  (and by the way…..when you lie….and you are caught?  Saying, “I was just kidding!” doesn’t count…..)
