what’s on the inside…

“Don’t hit back; discover beauty in everyone.  If you’ve got it in you, get along with everybody.  Don’t insist on getting even; that’s not for you to do.  “I’ll do the judging,” says God.  “I’ll take care of it.”  Our scriptures tell us that if you see your enemy hungry, go buy that person lunch, or if he’s thirsty, get him a drink.  Your generosity will surprise him with goodness.  Don’t let evil get the best of you; get the best of evil by doing good.”  ~  Romans 12:17-21 (The Message)

No matter how good we look or how talented and successful we are, there is always going to be someone that is better than you and one of these days you are probably going to run into them.  (sorry!)  And if you are human…you will probably feel that ugly feeling called jealousy.

The ugly green monster, it’s sometime called.  Jealousy can steal your time and steal your joy.  Jealousy can make you obsess {to think about something unceasingly or persistently; dwell obsessively upon something} over someone in an unhealthy way and cause resentment.   It may begin innocently enough, checking out another person’s car or house and this can lead us to feeling inferior.  Why do we judge others?  It seems our nature is to constantly compare ourselves to others and to strive for something different….something perfect.

It all comes from insecurity, pride, imagination, assumptions….the list can go on and on.  Seeing ourselves as God sees us and not comparing ourselves to others can help to suffocate jealous feelings.  It might sound simple, but it’s not always easy.

You can’t love others if you don’t love yourself.  Stop comparing yourself, exercise self-control and begin by reading God’s Word.  Start with Psalm 139 and see how much God loves you…

Love your enemies.

Love your neighbors.

Show mercy.

Show grace.

Live a life filled with beauty and joy!  You are unique and You are loved…..just open your heart and receive His love…

Then don’t forget to pass it on……..

I’m kind of a big deal…

 I have so many favorite scriptures in the Bible, it’s hard to choose just one.  However, when it comes to chapters I will quickly tell you my number one…a beautiful reminder that God knows me.  He knew me before I was born and I am fearfully and wonderfully made!

Psalm 139

“O Lord, you have searched me

and you know me.

You know when I sit and when I rise;

you perceive my thoughts from afar.

You discern my going out and my lying down;

you are familiar with all my ways.

Before a word is on my tongue

you know it completely, O Lord.

You hem me in – behind and before;

you have laid your hand upon me.

Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,

too lofty for me to attain.

Where can I go from your Spirit?

Where can I flee from your

If I go up to the heavens,

 you are there;

If I make my bed in the depths,

you are there.

If I rise on the wings of the dawn,

If I settle on the far side of the sea,

even there your hand will guide me,

your right hand will hold me fast.

If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me

and the light become night around me,”

even the darkness will not be dark to you;

The night will shine like the day,

for darkness is as light to you.

For you created my inmost being;

you knit me together in my mother’s womb.

I praise you because I am fearfully

and wonderfully made;

your works are wonderful,

I know that full well.

My frame was not hidden from you

when I was made in the secret place.

When I was woven together in the

depths of the earth,

your eyes saw my unformed body.

All the days ordained for me

were written in your book

before one of them came to be.

How precious to me are your

thoughts, O God!

How vast is the sum of them!

Were I to count them,

they would outnumber the grains of sand.

When I awake,

I am still with you.

If only you would slay the wicked,

O God!

Away from me, you bloodthirsty men!

They speak of you with evil intent;

your adversaries misuse your name.

Do I not hate those who hate you,

O Lord,

and abhor those who rise up against you?

I have nothing but hatred for them;

I count them my enemies.

Search me, O God, and know my heart,

test me and know my anxious thoughts.

See if there is any offensive way in me,

and lead me in the

way everlasting.”
