my prayer for Mary…

Oh friends….I have another prayer request that has been weighing on my heart.

Do you remember me talking about my friend Mary?  She was at home and tripped over one of her little dogs and hit her forehead on a table.  She complained for a bit and then told her husband that she was going to Nordstrom (naturally…) to do some shopping.  He tried to persuade her to stay home but she was determined to go anyway.

Mary went to the store and then collapsed.  The paramedics came and took her to the hospital where she immediately had brain surgery.  This was over a month ago and she is finally out of ICU and into a room.  Yesterday my friend, Glenda, and I went to visit her.

This was so very distressing for me….she cannot move, with the exception of her right arm…and that is very slowly.  I believe that she knew who we were but she cannot speak.  We talked to her and I wiped her forehead and face because she was in a deep sweat….and the room was hot.  Glenda had her iPod and we let her listen to music and she began to cry.

This was heart-wrenching because I did not know how to help her.  I believe the music was something she needed to hear and she was moved by the hymns that we played for her.  We stayed for over an hour and when it was time to go, I asked her if I could pray with her.  There was the slightest nod of her head and so I prayed.

I didn’t think that I could handle my emotions, but God gave me the strength to speak on her behalf.  When I finished praying, I almost burst out in tears….she mouthed, “Amen”.

I was so stressed over the situation, that I went home and got sick.  I wish I were stronger but sometimes my emotions decide which way my health is going to go for the day.  Soo….it went south.  Today I’m dealing with a headache, which is nothing compared to what Mary is enduring….

But, my friends, I believe in prayer.  I believe that God can heal Mary and I am asking for some prayer warriors to stand with myself, Glenda and my friend, Mary  and lift her up.  God is so good and gracious and I am just asking for prayers for strength, peace and healing.

Thank you…..from the bottom of my heart.  I will keep you posted on her health…

peace, dude…

“The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.  Against such things there is no law.”  Galatians 5:22 (NIV)

PEACE!!  Well, the FIRST peace we all need is peace with God.  Our sins are an offense to His holiness.  THANKFULLY, Jesus paid our debt.

Peace can be defined as a state of harmony between two parties.  But again….that sort of peace is dependent on outward circumstances.  The peace that the Apostle Paul speaks of is the profound state of well-being and inner tranquility that comes from being right with God… matter what our circumstances.

“Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.”  Romans 5:1 (NIV)

Hmm….but what about peace in our lives?  You know, the everyday peace that we all need?  That’s what I want.

When we have a bad day, you can either choose to wallow in despair, hang your head down and complain or you can make the choice when you walk out the door, that no matter what happens to you today, you are going to smile and not get hot and bothered.  Make no mistake!!  It won’t be easy….but it will be worth it!

Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you.  Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”  John 14:27 (NIV)

This kind of peace will, undoubtedly, have an impact on our peaceful relationships with others….but it all begins with God.

all you need is love, da da dada daaaa…

” The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.  Against such things there is no law”  Galatians 5:22 (NIV)

LOVE…..This isn’t the Hollywood version of love.  The word for love in this verse is the original Greek word AGAPE.

There are three types of love.  EROS love is known as “erotic love.” PHILOS love is a brotherly love (love between friends) and AGAPE love is the ultimate love…it is the unconditional love.

When you love unconditionally, it doesn’t mean that you won’t get hurt…and it doesn’t mean you won’t be talked about….but it does mean that you are displaying the fruit that JESUS displayed!

This quality is significant to our relationship with God, because we can’t know anything about love apart from Him!  1 John 4:8, says, “He who does not know love does not know God, for God is love. When we have truly felt God’s love for us in sending His only Son to die on the cross for us, then we cannot help but love others as He has loved us. That kind of love will impact us in a life-transforming way!

So we can ‘taste’ that this fruit signifies an unselfish love that gives…without expecting anything in return.  Its a love that always seeks the best for its object.  A supernatural love of which we’re not capable apart from the Holy Spirit.

I want to be treated with that kind of love.  I want to treat others with that kind of love…and we can..when we live by the Spirit.

Tomorrow is JOY!!

fruit of the spirit….

“The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.  Against such things there is no law.”  Galatians 5:22 (NIV)

Aren’t those qualities beautiful?  Read them again and let them soak in.  These qualities are the ones that the Holy Spirit wants to produce in our lives.

By our own efforts, these “fruit” could never be produced in us as they were found in Jesus.  BUT, through the Holy Spirit living in us, Jesus’ own perfect character can be seen in us!!

“Every tree which does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.” Matthew 7:19.

Jesus told His disciples that you can tell if someone truly belongs to Him by the kind of spiritual fruit that they produce.  Why?  Because when you gave your life to Jesus, your salvation wasn’t free….it was bought by a VERY HIGH price!!  The death of Christ!!

Now, you might ask yourself why God thinks that you are worthy of that sacrifice.  Doesn’t it seem that despite all your attempts at perfection…you constantly miss the mark?  Well, our Heavenly Father has a very special kind of love for us and he longs for us to be in His presence.

John Stott said, “The mere recital of these christian graces should be enough to make the mouth water and the heart beat faster.  For this is a portrait of Jesus Christ.” Wow….I’ll let that settle in for a minute.

Living by faith in the Son of God is what the fruit of the spirit is all about.  Each day I want to take a piece of fruit and we can … eat it together.  (oh, I just patted myself on the back for that one!)  🙂

Tomorrow we can take a bite out of LOVE…..

hello, ranch…

How wonderful to go on vacation!  How more wonderful-er it is to be home.  (And yes, my spell check goes crazy when I create new words).

We left Orange County this afternoon at 1:00pm and arrived at the ranch at 7:30pm….what a long day!  It is nice to come here to clean sheets and a cool breeze coming in the windows!  We are blessed to have found a lady who lives in Jackson Hole and commutes out here on the days that we arrive to clean and……get this……..make us homemade tortillas, beans and salsa fresca!  Si, es verdad!

So, since it is already dark-thirty in the evening, I won’t know how beautiful everything is until the  morning.  But I will get up and meet the day head on!!  Jimmy and I have noticed that just leaving the Jackson Hole airport, has us beginning to unwind and slow down a little.  That is why I love this ranch.  Thank you, God!

Tomorrow is a new day.  For some of us, tomorrow is a day to start over.  For others, it is a day that we don’t want to face because of our circumstances.  But for ALL God’s children, it “is the day that the Lord has made and we will rejoice and be glad in it” (Psalm 118:24)

Remember that verse… might have to remind yourself of it over and over tomorrow!  Have a wonderful Monday!!!

Isaiah 40:18-31
Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

Back to school

Ok..I have started a fabulous new summer bible study, so guess what? You get to learn too! And no, I have graciously decided not to charge you a dime. And you’re welcome.

The book of Ruth. What a gal! First she’s married, then a widow, then a servant, then a foreigner…Whew! She is presented as a godly woman who was left with a mother-in-law, who had recently changed her name to “bitter”…..(ok…mom sounds like a real pip).

So Dear Ruth faced quite a lot of challenges yet did so with such grace she’s got her own book in the Bible! Eeek! I just imagined in that second what the book of Sandi would be like!! I don’t think I would like to see my life in print, thank you very much.

So let me get started on my study and I will let you in on the scoop of Ruth.

And I’m writing from Omaha, Nebraska, where the college world series is being played (can’t you hear the thrill in my voice? Me either) Anywho.. I am typing from my iPad and it is taking forever. So please forgive any typos…

blessings to you,my friends!!

prayer warriors…

I believe that the most powerful thing we can do for anyone is pray for them.  It can be done anywhere at anytime. We cannot fight the christian battle in our own power.  We must pray continually.

Without God’s peace, we will not win the spiritual battle.  We, as christians, are to have a ministry of peace to people who are afraid and we are to be armed with His Word.  I also believe that the Word of God is the most dreaded tool used to fight the enemy and we are to use our weapon which is the Bible.

People today don’t want to believe in the devil anymore.  Even people who say they are Christians don’t  believe in the reality of Satan.  But the Bible says that he is alive and well on planet earth destroying the work of Christ wherever he can.

Ephesians 6:12 says “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.”

EEEK!! Aren’t you glad that we can’t see these wicked demonic forces?  How creepy would that be?  But we shouldn’t be morbidly occupied with the subject of demonism NOR should we live in FEAR of demons.  We have the armor of God!  Ephesians 6:13-17 tells us to put on the armor of God.  The belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the shoes of peace, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation and the sword of the spirit.

I enjoy walking and praying at the same time.  I love getting outside and seeing all the beauty that is around me and it makes me start off my time praising Him for His creation!  Plus it helps to keep me on my toes and not to ‘wander off’ while I’m praying.  Can you imagine if you are talking to a friend and then you just wander off during the middle of a conversation?  Well, I imagine that that is what God has felt like in many of my prayers.  I’m awesome at falling asleep in the middle of my “conversation” with Him.  In fact I am probably a pro.  But……then again… sweet is it to fall asleep talking to Jesus?  Hmm?

I am not skilled in many areas….but I do know how to talk to my God.  I know that He hears me and He loves me and wants the best for His children.  You might be discouraged about your own prayer life but I believe that Satan likes to convince you that you’ve blown it and you should just stop praying.  But I say, PERSEVERE!  Start today and survive out there on that battlefield!!!!

inner peace….

If you can start the day without caffeine,

If you can always be cheerful, ignoring aches and pains,

If you can resist complaining and
boring people with your troubles,

If you can eat the same food every
day and be grateful for it,

If you can understand when your loved
ones are too busy to give you any time,

If you can take criticism and
blame without resentment ,

If you can conquer tension
without medical help,

If you can relax without liquor,

If you can sleep without the aid of drugs,

Then… are probably the family dog…..
(sorry….i bet you thought I was going to be a bit more…spiritual..)
