where’d she go??

Pretty soon (March 3rd) I’ll be heading off to Israel!!!  This will be my second trip and I’m sure it will be just as wonderful as the first!

But here’s the dealio…..I’m taking my iPad and have (finally) figured out how to download my pictures.  So each day I will download pictures and tell about where we are and what we’re doing.

Bad part…….I cannot get the pictures to my blog page..  (insert gasps and wailing here)…Soooo….if you want to know ALL ABOUT the trip….I will need you to check Facebook.  If you are somewhere out there and are NOT my Facebook friend…..send a request and I will add you.  Unless you are a creeper….then, I’m not sure what I’ll do.

So, each day I will post pictures and tell a little bit about each one so you can ‘walk with me’.  Although your ‘walk’ will be a tad  less expensive than mine… but YOU WON’T GET BLISTERS!!

It’s going to be great and I can’t wait to let you in on all the scoop.  Don’t you want Jerusalem scoop?  Sure you do!!!

Just think!  You can live vicariously through me!  How fun is that?  Super fun, I tell you.

So, let’s get this Facebook thingy out of the way and start living the life……..

the middle…

Psalm 118:8 – “It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in man.”

Did you know that the middle chapter of the Bible is Psalm 118?
Did you know that the longest chapter of the Bible is Psalm 119?
Did you know that the shortest chapter of the Bible is Psalm 117?
Well, as the real estate agents everywhere say, “Location, Location, Location.”  The verse at the very center of the Bible is Psalm 118:8.  Very, very good advice for us all.  Now, are you in the center of God’s Word?  Is your heart focused on His heart?   Spending time in His Word and in prayer will draw us closer to Him.  Even in our stormiest times ever, trusting God will place us right in the center of His Will.
Some experts have placed Psalm 117 at the center of the King James Version of the Bible.  While others claim that the ‘even’ number of verses make it impossible to know the center of the Bible.  But does this take away any significance of Psalm 118?  God should be  the center of our lives and nothing should be taken away from that.
Come with us to Israel in March 2011 and feel the presence of God.  Walk where Jesus walked and pray in the Garden of Gethsamane.  Visit www.medskeens.com for more info.  We would love to see you walking with us!

wwjd…PART 2…

WWJD.  What would Jesus do?

Before we can ask that question, we have to know WHO He was, WHAT He believed , and WHY He did what He did for us.

WHAT: Jesus believed in One God.  He believed that the Bible was more than just a trustworthy document, He believed it was very Word of God.  Since Jesus is God, and the Bible teaches us that it is God’s Word, then it is HIS WORD.    His use of scripture indicates that He regarded it as inspired , authoritative and infallible.

In John 10:35, He said the the “scriptures cannot be broken”.  As was with Jesus, our TASK is to declare and defend the gospel.  The Good News.

Come with us in March 2011 to Israel.  There is still time to get onboard.  Visit www.medskeens.com for more information.  Let’s keep learning more about the God we serve!

WWJD.  What would Jesus do?

Before we can ask that question, we have to know WHO He was, WHAT He believed , and WHY He did what He did for us.

WHO:  There is very little doubt that He existed, but people do wonder about His divine nature.  The gospel of Jesus means, literally “good news” and in Matthew 16 the disciples put this question to the test..

When they came to the area of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his followers, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?”  They answered, “Some say you are John the Baptist. Others say you are Elijah, and still others say you are Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”  Then Jesus asked them, “And who do you say I am?”  Simon Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Jesus answered, “You are blessed, Simon son of Jonah, because no person taught you that.  My Father in heaven showed you who I am.”

If you were in love, you would want to know everything you could about your future spouse.  AND if there were a book, pieced together with all the details about her life, her character and her mind, wouldn’t you want to get your hands on that book?

Well, as christians, we should be trying to grab every little detail about the life of Jesus.  We should open our book (Bible) and learn about His life, His character and His mind.  This is the only way to truly understand how a loving God could give us such a loving Son. Who is Jesus? This could be the most important question that we ever answer!

Another way to understand His life is by going where He went.  The March 2011 Israel Trip is going to be a trip of a lifetime.  We will gain insight about His ministry and His miracles!  Let’s go and learn together.  Visit www.medskeens.com to get all the juicy details.  I hope to see you on that plane!!!!

Tomorrow we will learn about WHAT He believed…………please come back!

are ya feeling the buzz?

Ok….let’s talk Israel again.  Now usually I get very deep….you can practically hear Fiddler on the Roof  in the background.  You weep, you cry….wait.  …. NOW LET’S GET SERIOUS.

Israel = Fun.  Now, I know you weren’t thinking “fun”…you were thinking “holy, solemn, enlightening”. However,  I’m here  to say that, “We’re talking serious fun.”

Imagine yourself meeting a group of like minded friends that are going to spend a lot of time together laughing, praying, singing and learning about the life of Jesus.  We meet at the airport and start getting acquainted.  Everyone is excited about this new venture and anxious to get on our way. This is the start of the buzz….

I’m not going to talk about the flight……it’s long.  Get over it.

But NOW!!  You are in Tel Aviv!!!

You are really here!!!  And there is quite the time change!  If you are in NYC at 12:00 noon, it is 7pm in Tel Aviv!  You are ahead of time!  You are practically in the future!!!

You arrive at the airport, and trust me here….we all look the same….tired, pale, frazzled and buzzing, all at the same time! (Ladies, take your make-up bag into the bathroom and freshen up. Men: pretend you don’t notice. Seriously.)

OK!  We’re all joined together in the airport and eagerlly await our chariot!! (i.e..big charter bus)

Our tour guide finds our host (Med) and the adventure is beginning!!!  As we drive to our hotel, we aren’t quiet anymore. The calm has gone, we are listening to our host,  asking questions and feeling the buzz!  THERE’S A BUZZ, PEOPLE!  We are finally here!!

Next we start driving to the hotel and it’s difficult to imagine that we still need to eat and go to sleep before our tour begins…..WOW, IT STARTS WITH A PLANE AND A BUS………what happens tomorrow???

(stay tuned)  visit www.medskeens.com to get more info!!  See you bright and early tomorrow!

wanna make your skin tingle?

Make new friends, keep the old.  One is silver and the other is gold!!  That song was introduced to me when I entered Brownies.  It kept with me and proved itself when I went on the 2008 trip to Israel.  I met so many fantastic people and have stayed in touch with most of them!  (thank you, Facebook!)

People get fanatical when they meet celebrities.  They even go to Hollywood to stand in the famous footprints of stars at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre!  They bid on famous scripts to blockbuster movies so they can have the words of a legendary actor in their hands!

Friends, can you imagine standing in the famous footprints of our Lord Jesus?  Can you imagine holding the words (the holy bible) of the creator of the universe in your hands?  Forget the cement prints.  Forget the bright lights of tinsel town.  Go back to the beginning.  Walk the streets of Jerusalem where our Lord walked.  See the Garden of Gethsemane.  Luke 22:54-62 tells us that drops of blood fell from Jesus’ body as he prayed and obeyed His Father.  Once you step into the Garden of Gethsemane, a peaceful feeling comes over your body.  You find yourself wondering where he sat and prayed to God.  You can only begin to imagine his feelings when Judas and the soldiers came to arrest him.  Judas kisses Jesus and our Lord allowed the soldiers to take him away.

What about the tomb where they wrapped our Lord’s body and he lay for three days?  Listen to the story again, but this time it takes on a whole new dimension….why?  Because after you hear the story, you enter the tomb and feel your skin begin to tingle and tears come to your eyes.

I am thankful that tomb is empty.  For He is Risen!

NEXT, JORDAN RIVER AND THE DEAD SEA….(check out www.medskeens.com) It’s such a great trip…..I’m going again in March 2011.  I hope you are there!!

you wanna go on a trip?

It started out simple enough.  Two girls, new friends, a trip to Israel and really big hair.

Since there wasn’t enough room in Coach, we made our way to the front of the plane to stretch out.  We were armed with menu’s, a duvet and eye shields.  We weren’t sure what we weren’t supposed to look at, but we placed them on our faces and just talked really loud…although it was our vision that was impaired…not our hearing.

We woke up refreshed and ready to  see something … jewish.  So we hopped aboard the first bus we could find as our fearless leader, Mark Kendall, talked on a microphone (which by the way was very professional) and our tour guide, Maher pointed to random places on a map.  His smooth, chocolate-y, velvet-y voice had the female passengers in a hypnotic trance as we pretended to listen. He was a arabic/christian Barry White……for sure.

I’ll hit some highlights of the tour….and NO it isn’t because I’ve been looking back at some pictures and wondering where the heck we were when that picture was taken…………..so………..OH!  Here is Glenda with Susan!  They are ….. in Israel.  (locations aren’t important)

But I can bet you about $50 that Susan will tell you EXACTLY where we were………that’s how she rolls.  These are the things I remembered:

I remember asking the donkey, “Hey, why the long face?”  And it was in Bethlehem…..Oh, and there were sheep…or should I say, sheeps….because there were more than one.  But here is where I really found myself.

Yeah, that’s right….it’s practically the Jerusalem Fashion Square. I was finally home. The crowd looked a little like Black Friday….but there wasn’t much pushing or shoving….I only did it a little…..

We were on a mission to find a shofar….I, personally was looking for the Gap…..shofar we couldn’t find one…. 🙂

Here is Med offering to trade Susan and I for a knife…it got a little dicey there for a minute…thankfully I didn’t have to intervene…because they don’t like it when you “pack heat” in Israel.  (whatever?!)

Here’s the bottom line, people.  You gotta go to Israel.  It’s the new thing.  All the cool kids are going and I don’t want you to be left out.  March 2011.  Israel.  Check out Med’s website at www.medskeens.com .

I will be posting more fantastic pictures and keeping you informed until the day we leave…..so…..it’s either going to get reeeeeally boring, or you should go!!  Next up:  The Dead Sea and the Jordan River!
