where was your mind this morning?

untitled Every day our families are in a battle.  As mothers of special needs children, we need more than ever to be immersed in the Word of God.

Not only did I have a handicapped son, but I also had four other children, a husband and three dogs to tend!   I know it can be done and it should be done early in the day before the crazy starts to happen.  We, as mothers, need that spiritual closeness with our Savior and we need to make time early before the daily rush begins when the world wakes up.

Because I have such a passion for you to read God’s Word, I have chosen some scripture for you to feed on.  What helped me to memorize scripture was to write the verse on post-it notes and place them everywhere!  I had scripture on the mirror, the refrigerator, the car visor…wherever I knew that I would be during the day.  This way I could read the verse and plant His Word in my heart.

Need a tip?  Say the verse out loud! Let your children hear you recite the verse and get them involved in memorizing also.  You certainly wouldn’t place your child in your car without a seatbelt, would you?  How can we expect to send our kids out into the world without being equipped and protected by His Word?  Make it a daily practice and you will find you will be able to face your day with a peace that surpasses all understanding.  Don’t we all want that?

Here are a few of my favorite scriptures that have been dear to my heart…

“Finally brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of a good report – if there be any virtue and if there is any praise – think on these things.”  Philippians 4:8 NKJV

“Rejoice in the Lord always, I will say it again: Rejoice!  Let your graciousness be known to everyone.  The Lord is near.  Don’t worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving; let your requests be made known to God.  And the peace of God, which surpasses every thought, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”  Philippians 4:4-7 NIV

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your paths. Proverbs 3:5-6 NKJV

son-ripened fruit

My Father is glorified by this: that you produce much fruit and prove to be My disciples. John 15:8, HCSB

You may be a brand-new Christian, or perhaps you’ve known Jesus for years. Regardless, it should be obvious to others that you belong to Jesus. He said that when people look at you, they should see evidence of God at work.
What kind of evidence? Jesus called it “fruit.”

When you put others first instead of yourself, that’s fruit.

When you get rid of an ungodly habit and seek to live a pure life, that’s fruit.

When you refuse to gossip but choose instead to build up others, that’s fruit.

When you control your temper, even when others are losing theirs, that’s fruit.

When you forgive someone who hurt you, that’s fruit.

The types of fruit are endless.
God doesn’t expect you to produce all this fruit on your own. In fact, Jesus said you’re not capable (apart from him) of living a life that glorifies God. Rather, he wants to live through you, as a way to show others that he is alive and powerful.
In fact, the only way to keep Christ from producing fruit in your life is to resist what he’s trying to do in you. If, on the other hand, you cooperate with all Christ is doing in you, you’ll see amazing things taking place in your life.
Think back to when you first became a Christian. Are you the same person you were then, or have you allowed God to produce fruit in your life as a testimony to his greatness?

all you need is love, da da dada daaaa…

” The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.  Against such things there is no law”  Galatians 5:22 (NIV)

LOVE…..This isn’t the Hollywood version of love.  The word for love in this verse is the original Greek word AGAPE.

There are three types of love.  EROS love is known as “erotic love.” PHILOS love is a brotherly love (love between friends) and AGAPE love is the ultimate love…it is the unconditional love.

When you love unconditionally, it doesn’t mean that you won’t get hurt…and it doesn’t mean you won’t be talked about….but it does mean that you are displaying the fruit that JESUS displayed!

This quality is significant to our relationship with God, because we can’t know anything about love apart from Him!  1 John 4:8, says, “He who does not know love does not know God, for God is love. When we have truly felt God’s love for us in sending His only Son to die on the cross for us, then we cannot help but love others as He has loved us. That kind of love will impact us in a life-transforming way!

So we can ‘taste’ that this fruit signifies an unselfish love that gives…without expecting anything in return.  Its a love that always seeks the best for its object.  A supernatural love of which we’re not capable apart from the Holy Spirit.

I want to be treated with that kind of love.  I want to treat others with that kind of love…and we can..when we live by the Spirit.

Tomorrow is JOY!!

fruit of the spirit….

“The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.  Against such things there is no law.”  Galatians 5:22 (NIV)

Aren’t those qualities beautiful?  Read them again and let them soak in.  These qualities are the ones that the Holy Spirit wants to produce in our lives.

By our own efforts, these “fruit” could never be produced in us as they were found in Jesus.  BUT, through the Holy Spirit living in us, Jesus’ own perfect character can be seen in us!!

“Every tree which does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.” Matthew 7:19.

Jesus told His disciples that you can tell if someone truly belongs to Him by the kind of spiritual fruit that they produce.  Why?  Because when you gave your life to Jesus, your salvation wasn’t free….it was bought by a VERY HIGH price!!  The death of Christ!!

Now, you might ask yourself why God thinks that you are worthy of that sacrifice.  Doesn’t it seem that despite all your attempts at perfection…you constantly miss the mark?  Well, our Heavenly Father has a very special kind of love for us and he longs for us to be in His presence.

John Stott said, “The mere recital of these christian graces should be enough to make the mouth water and the heart beat faster.  For this is a portrait of Jesus Christ.” Wow….I’ll let that settle in for a minute.

Living by faith in the Son of God is what the fruit of the spirit is all about.  Each day I want to take a piece of fruit and we can … eat it together.  (oh, I just patted myself on the back for that one!)  🙂

Tomorrow we can take a bite out of LOVE…..
