prayer warriors…

I believe that the most powerful thing we can do for anyone is pray for them.  It can be done anywhere at anytime. We cannot fight the christian battle in our own power.  We must pray continually.

Without God’s peace, we will not win the spiritual battle.  We, as christians, are to have a ministry of peace to people who are afraid and we are to be armed with His Word.  I also believe that the Word of God is the most dreaded tool used to fight the enemy and we are to use our weapon which is the Bible.

People today don’t want to believe in the devil anymore.  Even people who say they are Christians don’t  believe in the reality of Satan.  But the Bible says that he is alive and well on planet earth destroying the work of Christ wherever he can.

Ephesians 6:12 says “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.”

EEEK!! Aren’t you glad that we can’t see these wicked demonic forces?  How creepy would that be?  But we shouldn’t be morbidly occupied with the subject of demonism NOR should we live in FEAR of demons.  We have the armor of God!  Ephesians 6:13-17 tells us to put on the armor of God.  The belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the shoes of peace, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation and the sword of the spirit.

I enjoy walking and praying at the same time.  I love getting outside and seeing all the beauty that is around me and it makes me start off my time praising Him for His creation!  Plus it helps to keep me on my toes and not to ‘wander off’ while I’m praying.  Can you imagine if you are talking to a friend and then you just wander off during the middle of a conversation?  Well, I imagine that that is what God has felt like in many of my prayers.  I’m awesome at falling asleep in the middle of my “conversation” with Him.  In fact I am probably a pro.  But……then again…..how sweet is it to fall asleep talking to Jesus?  Hmm?

I am not skilled in many areas….but I do know how to talk to my God.  I know that He hears me and He loves me and wants the best for His children.  You might be discouraged about your own prayer life but I believe that Satan likes to convince you that you’ve blown it and you should just stop praying.  But I say, PERSEVERE!  Start today and survive out there on that battlefield!!!!

heart of my hearts…

This post was originally written last year, but it is a favorite series of mine and I thought, since we do live in a troubled time…it is necessary to see it again…I will continue the series for the next few days..

The battle lines are drawn.  God and His people are on one side and Satan and his demons are on the other.  We, as christians, have to be prepared for a daily onslaught of arrows.

First Peter 5:8 warns us, “Be sober, be vigilant because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.” We’ve put on our Belt of Truth or Knowledge of God and now we need to put on our Breastplate of Righteousness.

The Bible says that when we become christians we are immediately equipped with the righteousness of Christ.  Our breastplate signifies that we are protected by His righteousness! When Satan points out all our faults and defects to the Lord, God says, “I don’t see them that way…I see them through my Son, Jesus Christ.”

2 Corinthians 5:21, “For He hath made Him [Jesus] to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him.”

Since we have this wonderful gift of righteousness then our lives should be changed!  Changed by the power of God!  We have to stand apart from this world because of His love and truth.  In our flesh, it is impossible to be righteous….otherwise Jesus wouldn’t have had to die on the cross for our sins. BUT, we can wear our armor consistently and feel protected from the evil one!

Our breastplate protects our heart.  And in our heart are emotions and feelings that need daily safeguarding. If we don’t  have our breastplate firmly in place then Satan can toss slanderous accusations that can penetrate our minds and emotions that can injure our spiritual walk!

Where is your heart?  What is protecting it today?  Did you put on your armor?  Put it on now….

honey, have you seen my belt?

God
is our Commander -in- Chief and has already won the war.  Yes, the Bible tells us that we are in a war and that we “wrestle”.

Ephesians 6:12 says, “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.”

When you picture someone ‘wrestling’ you think of a man pressing hard and straining their muscles to pin him to the ground.  And as a believer, that is what we are doing!  Satan is using all his energy trying to get us to be critical or to cause discord in our family and to destroy our testimony.  But we have to stand firm.  We can prepare and not be defeated.

Ephesians 6:13-17 (New International Version)

13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.”

The “belt of truth” is the first piece of weaponry that Paul has in our spiritual armor.  It seems odd because when we ladies describe what someone is wearing we don’t start with a ‘belt’!  We might notice shoes or a shirt or earrings but certainly not a belt.  But if you don’t have a belt, then it is much easier for your pants to fall off!  Your belt holds all things together! I imagine you wouldn’t have much confidence going somewhere if you are constantly trying to keep your pants pulled up.  (I’m picturing the kids ‘sagging’ right now)

The belt or girdle was used by the soldier as the place where he hung (or supported) his weapons.  He hung his sword or even his arrows from it.  And if he were a decorated soldier, he would pin his awards or medallions from his belt so people that saw him would know what sort of man they were dealing with.

But this is what the Belt did for the Roman soldier.  It held all the pieces of the armor together.  Even with all his great weaponry…if the belt wasn’t in place, everything would all fall apart.  The belt of truth is known as the knowledge of God, which resides in His Word.  To put on his belt of truth, you must know His Word.

We need to take advantage of every opportunity to learn about God and His Word so we can be armed against the enemy who is out to destroy us! Satan wants to keep us from walking in integrity so he will try to misinform us and upset us so that we will get bogged down in sin.  BUT, the way to deal with the Deceiver is to have God’s truth in our lives!  We have to ARM OURSELVES with the Truth!  We need to know what we know………

WE CANNOT WIN UNLESS WE ARE ARMED.  IT IS OUR RESPONSIBILITY TO PUT ON OUR ARMOR EVERYDAY….IT IS OUR JOB.

Tomorrow we will put on our breastplate………

are we really in a war?

This post was originally written last year, but it is a favorite series of mine and I thought, since we do live in a troubled time…it is necessary to see it again…I will continue the series for the next few days..

Many christians aren’t even aware that there IS a spiritual war going on….but there is.  And we christians are the direct targets of the enemy.

Ephesians 6:11 tells us to “Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil”.  The word “wiles” means “strategy” or “plans of war”.  Satan has his eyes set on christians that are serving the Lord and is not after those who already belong to him.  And we live on Satan’s territory!  We’re not fighting on ‘neutral’ ground or even God’s ground.  This battle is in enemy territory and the world, the flesh and the devil are our common enemies.

And our enemies maneuver in order to entice us and cause weakness and failure in our lives…..so…if we are going to fight in this war, we better observe that there really is a war going on and how we are planning to fight it.

1 Peter 5:8 alerts us to “Be sober, be vigilant because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.”  He wants to devour your life, your testimony and anything that could be used for God’s purpose.  A favorite trick of the devil is to make believers magnify his power to a greater degree than it deserves!  So we have to be careful not to imagine that the devil is behind everything that occurs, which could cause us to become paralyzed and keep us from usefulness in the Kingdom of God.

THANKFULLY, at the Cross, Jesus unraveled satan’s power over us! In Colossians 2:15, Paul clearly portrays Jesus’ victory and satan’s defeat!  It says, “And having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.”  WOO HOO!!  It was not a quiet moment in Heaven!  Jesus made a display of these defeated enemies and it must have been quite a show!

But the fact still remains…as long as we seek to live in God’s will and obey His word for our lives, the devil will do his best to oppose and destroy the plan that God wants to accomplish through us.

FOR THAT REASON…HE HAS GIVEN US A SET OF SPIRITUAL ARMOR….and tomorrow we are going to put it on to “stand against the wiles of the devil”.
