a signal grace

This weekend I was listening to a podcast and heard the term ‘signal grace‘ for the first time. I didn’t know what that meant, so I looked it up and had an “ahh moment”.

It is a Catholic term and promised to those who pray the rosary. Being raised Southern Baptist, I didn’t know traditions, but was determined to find out the scoop.

I had never really thought about the term, signal grace, but in my own life I have experienced these and called them, “God moments” when God shines a light on something that is happening in my life and speaks to my heart.

For example … my own God moment/signal grace has always been birds. When my son passed away, I had 3 different occasions where birds were involved. One in particular was in California, just two days after his funeral. I was walking on Coronado Island in the early morning and telling complaining to God how awful I felt and how no one understood the pain of losing their son……..and He sent a bird.

Yes. He sent a bird. Into my hair.

It came out of nowhere and swooped down onto my head and as I reached back to swat it away, God instantly, YES INSTANTLY, showed me His son on the cross. Sooo….yes, He understood my pain. And in that moment after the bird flew away, I had to smile. Ok. Oooops.

My God in heaven knows pain. Jesus knew pain. I’m not the only one with problems or pain and only have to turn on the TV to see all the hurt.

That was just one moment with birds. Several other moments happened and always made me smile. These were my signal graces.

I like to get up early for my time with the Lord and this morning it was still quite dark outside and as I sat reading His Word, a bird outside my window was singing his little heart out! In the dark!

Once again, God showed me how even in the darkness, I should be singing.

Our world seems to be crumbling around us, but it’s not up to me to sit and worry. It’s not up to me to try and figure out the answers to what is going on across the globe. It’s my job to sing in the darkness.

So, no matter what comes our way …. sing. The Lord may want you to act, but in your sacred duties, sing like the little bird in the dark. Read His Word and know you are loved.

the real power…

from Lifeway devotionals                                        1 Corinthians 1:18-25

To those who are perishing, the message of the cross is foolishness, but to us who are being saved it is God’s power. 1 Corinthians 1:18, HCSB

Don’t be surprised when not everyone is as excited about the gospel as you are! As you enjoy the thrill of walking with Jesus, you may be surprised when others choose not to experience God in the same exciting way you do.

Paul understood that those who approach Christianity with skepticism will never find any power in it. Such people consider the gospel foolishness. On the other hand, those who truly believe the good news discover firsthand the power of God.

Why is it some people never experience God’s activity in their lives? Because their lack of faith prevents them from seeing him at work. Their rejection of the truth ultimately costs them their lives. However, those who approach God with faith see him at work, and they experience his mighty power on a regular basis.

The Bible says some people simply refuse to accept the truth of the cross. To nonbelievers the Christian message is nonsense, so it holds no power for them. They can’t understand how anyone could accept it. They may even ridicule you for believing it!

But never stop sharing the good news simply because some people reject it. There will be those who do accept the truth of Christ, and you will see them experience God at work in their lives in the same powerful way he has worked in yours.

Why wouldn’t God just knock everybody down with his truth?

did your guy win?

Oh, my…..what an election night it was!!  But here we are….the day after…

Did your guy win?  Whether your guy won or not, we are still commanded to obey our government.

Romans 13:1-2, “Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities.  For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God.  Therefore whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will bring judgment on themselves.”

The speed limit applies to believers and non-believers alike!  Taxes have to be paid by both parties!  We are to be in submission to our government, as Jesus said, “Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s” (Luke 20:25).

So…now we pray.  No matter who is elected….we pray.  We plead for our country.  We pray for our president, those who counsel him, the Senate and the House.

The righteous Judge of all the earth – the TRUE SUPREME COURT – says, “Go make disciples of all the nations.” In other words, talk about Jesus.  HE is the SUPREME JUDGE of all the earth, and as christians, we belong to Him.

So, pray.  Don’t worry and don’t fear.  God has equipped us to handle life as it comes, but if you spend our day worrying about tomorrow, you will get tired and frustrated.  He wants us to be free from all anxiety and stress.  Don’t let your interests be divided between Him and the things in this world!  It’s easy to say we trust the Lord, but He wants to see the “fruit” of it!  Refuse to worry!

So, pray.

Be humble before the King of Kings.

Maybe your guy won….maybe he didn’t.  Either way…….pray.

wait…..do this before you vote!!

Let’s say a quick prayer for America!!!!!

Please give us a president that loves this country and everything it stands for.
Please give us a president who respects you as the one true God.
Please give us a president who will, with your help, restore this nation to its former glory, the way you created her.
Please help us to respect what you have given to us and not take anything for granted ever again.
Please God weaken the evil and strengthen the good both without and within.
May our eyes be opened.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen
Thank you……….now, carry on………
