what? Self-control?

“The fruit of the Spirit is love , joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.  Against such things there is no law.”  (Galatians 5:22)

Ok…I’ll be honest here…when I think of self-control….I think of food.  This is a tug of war in my life every single day.

God has given us free will, but that doesn’t give us license to do whatever we please.  He gave us a free will so we would voluntarily love Him, and obey Him.  But that, my friends, can only be done with the help of the Holy Spirit.  It might be the last fruit of the spirit, but it is certainly not the least.

Temptation comes to us in soo many ways.  But if we immerse ourselves in His Word and let the Spirit guide us then we can overcome.  Our culture today might say, “if it feels good do it”…but many people that gave in to that (bad) advice are in the BIG HOUSE today for acting on it!! (not the White House, but prison, silly…)

A person without self-control is very vulnerable.  THAT person is controlled by self…which is in direct contrast to what the Holy Spirit wants for us.

So have you messed up?  Don’t let your sin doubt your salvation.  Deal with it, confess it and re-commit your life to Christ.  Surrender and admit that you can’t do it on your own.

Nope….we can’t do it on our own.  The Bible clearly says that there is a struggle within us.  It’s daily and sometimes hourly.  And without the Holy Spirit inside of us…..we will be powerless.

Remember….the fruit of the spirit aren’t something we can scrounge up on our own…but they are free gifts that God has given to us…….and that’s a good thing….
